The Contemporary Professional Stylista

Who is the Contemporary, Professional Stylista?

The U Blush Woman is vibrant, multi-faceted, and dynamic! She is best summed as the Contemporary, Professional, Stylista. Otherwise noted, CPS! But who is this woman we speak of? In the the modern world, women are busy and wear multiple hats. We have to juggle our professional life, getting higher education, and pursuing our careers. But that’s not all. We are woman, meaning we are human and we value our womanhood. We break up to make up, travel and eat, and enjoy being entertained. We value our health and wellness, enjoy fashion and looking good.

The CPS represents the balance between one’s professional life and personal interests. At U Blush we recognize the need to have a  platform and community for a well rounded reader. Should the contemporary woman feel fragmented? Should she go to one site for fashion, another for love, and another to be in the know about popular culture and entertainment? No!  The contemporary woman is not broken up into little pieces rather all of her multiple parts come together to make up who she is and that is execatly how her news and information should be – all in one place! The CPS is a full woman, and all her wants, needs, and interests are right at her finger tips at U Blush Magazine.

Yen Ki Me

Appreciating the Full Woman

So when we say the Contemporary, Professional, Woman we pay homage the the multi-dimensional woman of today’s world who can rock heels to a board meeting which she heads, strut to happy hour with her her girls, only to come home to her man who takes them off. Or she may dance the night away with a new beau she meets at the hottest lounge, and come home to tell her girls all about it. Either way she is comfortable in her own skin, diverse in her interests and abilities, and valuable to her self and all those around her. She demands respect not so much through her words but through the self respect and humilty that she carries with her daily.

The contemporary professional woman knows how to weather the storms of life. She understand that life has its ups and downs and she has had her fair share of roller coaster rides. She maintains her dignity and respect by keeping faith and continuing to live as the best version of herself. Committed to growth and development she explores the world through travel, dining, and cultural experiences as well as reading and sharing intellectual and regular home girl conversations with old and new friends. The CPS is as strong as she is “weak”, able to put on her big girl shoes to rise to any challenge when the time calls but sheds tears and leans on a friends when its needed.

Yen Me Ki

The Contemporary Professional Woman is best described as

She may be born in the USA but this travelista has a passport and travels the world internationally! Even when she doesn’t she dreams of getting off American shores, researches distant lands, and plans to eventually make her international debut, just when the time is right!

Unique in her appreciation for entertainment. She knows how to relax, enjoy art, maybe even tap into her own creative sides. From watching the latest films, television shows, and listening to the latest music to an appreciation for independent art, this woman can escape the reality of life and appreciate arts imitation of it.

Sophisticated in her appreciation for maintaining her health and wellness. Recognizing that self care is important she seeks to live well through taking care of her mind, body, and soul  – nutritious eating, exercise, and inspirational writing can maintain her need for wellness.

Haute in her appreciation for fashion and make up. Yes this woman likes to look good and see’s her wardrobe and face as a means of sharing her beauty with the world. The Best Man Holiday

As some of us may recall, The Best Man, released in 1999, explored “life after college” – one of the most confusing and difficult times periods for any individual. We ask the questions: Who am I? Who do I want to be? Where am I going? And most commonly, What am I going to do with my life!? Thankfully as time passes we are presented with an answer and often times an unexpected one. Who would have thought a star athlete would marry his college sweetheart after discovering his best-friend stole one of the most beautiful gift she could have given him- Lance (Morris Chestnut) and Mia (Monica Calhoun). The reality that a once pushover high school teacher would fall in love with a stripper- Julian (Harold Perrineau) and Candace (Regina Hall). We never would have imagined that two rebels, who are completely disgusted by each other would end up under the same satin sheet- Quentin (Terrence Howard) and Shelby (Melissa De Sousa). Most surprisingly, we never thought a pair that seemed to yield such passion and tenderness would end up being “just friends” – Harper (Taye Diggs) and Jordan (Nia Long)- let alone that he would  marry “sweet sweet” Robyn (Sanana Lathan). But what happens when 15 years go by and dreams go unattained, pains simmers, secrets go unrevealed, and the reality of the world or should we say adulthood sets in – life happens.

Brotherhood is a central theme of this film. Gathered around a pool table in what appears to be Lance’s “man cave,”  the fellas reminiscence on the good ol’ days and discuss life as they know it – love, sex, values and habits – things don’t seem so bad – and when things get a little sticky Quentin’s jokes certainly help to lighten the mood. An uncomfortable undertone settles as, Harper and Lance have not spoken in years, but stuck together for the Christmas holiday, at Mia’s request, the boys or should we say Lance attempts to play nice. After a delightfully sexy talent show (be on the look out lovelies), the two begin to bound. However, Harper, with his lovable, supportive and unfortunately sneaky personality, has a hidden agenda that just might send things south.

The women final

There is something so beautiful in watching such a talented cast of actresses embody characteristics of the women we all hope to be. Robyn, so mother but snarky, Jordan, driven and intelligent, Shelby, as hot as a firecracker, Mia, so strong and wise, and Candace youthful and hilarious – this complication of characters allows each member of the audience to relate and connect on a personal level. And what if not to connect are movies for. Naturally you can expect that house full of women dealing with their own woes, cat fights are a guarantee – look out for “Shelby vs. Candace” Round 2!

Still going strong, Mia and Lance have four beautiful children, a mansion in the hills – as it seems they have everything that they could ever hope for. On the surface, they are living the dream, the good life, but Mia slow in pace and Lances hardened heart gives the impression that something is off.

The Best Man Holiday pays tribute to all mankind by reminding us how beautiful and precious life truly is. With moments that fill your heart with joy, your eyes with tears and your soul with uncontrollable laughter, this film displays the veracity of friendship, love and family.

8 Signs He Just Wants To…Fudge

Let’s face it lovelies, sometimes the dating game isn’t always so pleasant. Finding a man that interests you can be difficult, especially when you have to sift through all the mess. How do you know when a man really is interested in getting to know you, for you, someone that is interested in more than your body. Some men are straight forward and they tell you like it is. Whether  you like it or not you know where he stands and you can choose to act accordinaly. But what about men who aren’t so straight forward, how do you know their intentions? We can’t read minds, but here are 8 signs that he may not be interested in you for the long run, and to keep it frank, he just may want your, let’s call it…fudge. 😉

1. Late night calls: There’s not much you can really do after 11pm is there, especially on a work night?! If we continually calls you after hours, he may only be interested in doing things of the night. Yes lovelies, it may really just be a booty call.

2. Text only: Yes, we are in the new millennium and texting is a normal means of communication. It serves a function -maintains communication without  much effort and can be a quick way to get an answer you want. But getting to know someone through texts only, can be quite difficult. Sometimes, picking up the phone is actually a sign that he wants to get to know you on a deeper level.

3. Dating – In: A good home cooked meal can be quite tasty, and spending time watching television with your beau can be pretty relaxing and romantic. However, when you’re just getting to know a person, and the only place you see him is inside your home, that may tell you something. Perhaps you both are homebodies and that serves you well. But, it may also mean that he only wants to see you in private and to do private things. Just food for thought.

4. “Let’s kick it”: My pet peeve! What does that mean? Kick a ball? Sure, soccer, tether, I like to play! But really, when a guy uses this phrase to me it reads that he doesn’t take you seriously. Basically I interpret that as “can I come over” or “you can come over” which brings us back to dating-in. Really what can come from that?

5. Texts ain’t about nothing: As you can see, texting is a trend in this post. Texts that “ain’t about nothing” go a little something like this, “hey” “What’s up” “Nothing” “Chillin” “Cool” “okay” “good.” Basically, one line sentences. What’s the point? Try expanding your vocabulary and really tell me what you want.

Dating- woman-looking-out-window

6. Goes M.I.A.: How many of you have had men that cycle in and out of your life? One minute he’s hitting you with the “let’s kick it,” or a one-liner, “what’s up” and then you don’t hear from him for two months. But good old faithful always comes back, the thing is, his game often does not change. I guess that only makes you insane for expecting something different, right

7. Does not talk about the future: A men that sees you in his future will talk about it, pretty simple. And we’re not talking about those guys that sale you false dreams. We all know boys like that who say they will give you the world and don’t have a pot to piss in, leave them be. A man who wants you for the short run will use language as such. It doesn’t mean you can’t talk to him or that his feelings might not change, but just beware.

8. Invites you to party, only: We already got an insider perspective on the ways men categorize women, fun and smart, pretty simplistic but it gets the job done. Well one way you know a man has put you into the “I want to just have fun with this girl” category, is if he only invites you to “fun” things. Now I know this may sound weird but hear me out. A man that really likes you and takes you seriously will probably want to share many parts of his life with you, fun things of course, but also serious and sensitive parts. If a guy only invites you to party, date-in, and nothing else, it probably means you’re in the fun space. Bottle popping might be fun, but what happens when the drink fizzles out?

So Lovelies, here are some tall tell signs that a guy may really only be interested in the physical. It may not be the case all the time, but if this sounds familiar you may want to give it some thought. Now that you know, the ball is in your court. You may like fudge so it may be okay. Yes, sometimes, girls just want to have fun. The choice is up to you!
